Help Us Launch A Different Kind of Bird Festival
The Boston Birding Festival has just filed its Form 1023 for tax-exempt status and built a clear-eyed, well-researched, workable three-year budget, a business plan, a funding plan, a strategic plan, a marketing plan, and a plan for what happens if we encounter, say, an asteroid.
We're now ready to hunker down and get to the work of creating an actual festival while we continue to produce free, public small-group programming throughout the year.
Our next task is to raise a modest start-up fund for basic operational infrastructure and resources.
What is infrastructure, you may be asking, and why?
It’s software, web-hosting, email management, banking, bookkeeping, insurance, legal advice, filing fees,a storage unit, and maintenance for donated tech and optics.
But making do takes away from our currently irregularly scheduled small-group programming (which we’d like to make more regular). And planning an actual festival in addition to our monthly walks and talks is going to take all hands on deck and then some.
Resources will make a major difference in what we're able to do. We can’t book a pelagic, or kayaking trip, or even a van trip without insurance. We'll always haggle like pros, but it would be amazing to have the basics in place.
Enter “Taking Flight” — our very first fundraising campaign. Our goal is to raise enough to get us off the ground with at least some systems "go." And it would mean a lot to have you on the team.
