ABOUT THIS TRIP

The Boston Birding Festival is excited to be part of The Great Malden Outdoors Birding Event, where nature meets community in celebration of Disability Pride!

This free event features several guided birding options all along a flat and paved portion of the Northern Strand Bike Trail leading to the Rumney Marsh for a 1-mile round trip. You can select from Nature Man Mike’s tour from 8 am to 10 am,  join blind birding guide and Malden resident, Jerry Berrier, for a birding by ear tour from 9 am to 11 am, or pop in for a Big Sit with volunteers from the Boston Birding Festival anytime in the morning.

New birders (and even the merely bird curious) are welcome to join any of these events. We will also have some binoculars to lend.

See you out there!

GOOD TO KNOW

TRAILS
This section of the Northern Strand Trail is flat, paved, and smooth. The trail is 8 to 10 feet wide and used for pedestrian traffic only. There are two street crossings at which volunteers will be assisting with street crossings. Public seating will be available with benches at Linden Square and at Rumney Marsh. Both tours will be about 1 mile total.

BIG SIT

Bring a chair and a water bottle, and come sit with us and look for birds. Share your best bird story, and let’s discuss the saltmarsh birds we see. We’ll also have a tent for shade and some light refreshments.

FACILITIES

ADA accessible restrooms and hand-washing stations will be available at the Linden Square parking lot and the resources fair.

CHALLENGES

We recommend bug spray, sunscreen, and a hat.
