Burrage Pond Wildlife Management Area comprises over 2,000 acres of ponds, marshes, swamps, and former cranberry bogs, and 10 glorious miles of trails.
For birders, it is one of the South Shore’s most treasured destinations—famous for its ducks, marsh birds, and migrating songbirds.
The main parking lot is on Hawks Ave. off Pleasant St. in Hanson. Visitors are encouraged to remain on marked paths to protect sensitive wetland areas and avoid ticks.
Habitat here varies, making for some excellent birding. and includes expansive wetlands, swamps, open water, and transitional upland. Burrage Pond is also home to an incredible diversity of snakes, turtles, butterflies, and mammals.
