A Day On The Island

BIRDING THE BOSTON HARBOR ISLANDS — SPECTACLE ISLAND

THIS EVENT IS BOOKED! You can add yourself to the waitlist using the ticket form on this page. If a ticket becomes available, we will email you—first come, first served. Tickets must be claimed immediately.

However, the ferry service also sells tickets. [LINK HERE] If you purchase a ticket, you can still join us for birding.

Email us if you choose this option and we will send info about joining us there. hello@bostonbirdingfestival.org. Put SPECTACLE in your subject line.

Hop on the ferry and come spend a day out on Spectacle Island with the birds for a birding adventure cosponsored by the Boston Birding Festival and Allston-Brighton Birders. We’ll check out what’s flown in, and what’s flown out and spend some time focusing on bird behavior. Bring your own picnic and or swimsuit. We’ll also play some birdy games and get to know the island habitat that many bird species depend on.

This trip welcomes beginners and binoculars will be available to loan. Please email in advance.

Spaces for this free program are limited to 21 spots—and, good news, your ferry ticket is included!, thanks to Harbor Islands State & National Park.

Accessibility

While the Boston Harbor Islands Partnership strives to create a public space that is welcoming and accessible to all, most islands do not currently meet ADA accessibility standards. The park is working to rectify this. Please contact us for any further information to help you plan a comfortable and enjoyable trip.

Spectacle Island is the only park island that features an accessible 1.5-mile perimeter trail that meets ADA guidelines. All trails on the island are wide with low gradation and crushed gravel substrate.

Visitor Center, exhibits, and multi-stall restrooms are at ground level with no steps. An accessible beach mat and beach wheelchair are available upon request.

All piers, docks and gangways are ADA compliant, though gangways may be steep at low tide. Park ferries are generally accessible; contact Boston Harbor Cruises at 617-227-4321 for detailed vessel information.
